“George Enescu” Festival 2019 will take place in five countries at the same time
The “George Enescu” Festival, named for the famous Romanian composer, is one of the most prominent classical music festivals in Europe. Held in Romania since 1958, the festival is expanding its stage to a global scale.
This year, seven cities and five countries – Belgium, Canada, Germany, Italy, and Moldova – will host related events of the “George Enescu” International Festival honoring the extraordinary musical heritage of the great artist. We are thrilled to be part of this extraordinary celebration!
The 2019 edition becomes the largest and richest one in the history of the festival. Its exponential power will electrify audiences in Liège, Toronto, Montreal, Berlin, Dresden, Florence, and Chișinău. Some of the most renowned orchestras of the world and top artists, Romanians, and foreigners alike, will present essential compositions by George Enescu or concerts dedicated to this great composer. At the same time, performances will take place in Bucharest and eleven other Romanian cities, starting August 31st, through to September 22nd.
The first recital in Toronto, on September 7th, will include Enescu’s “Impromptu concertant” performed by Jonathan Crow (violin) and Coral Solomon (piano), and the “Toccata” from Piano Suite Op. 10 alongside with works by Bartók, Ysaÿe, Brahms, and Ravel in the series entitled “Tribute to George Enescu”. The September 14th recital is musical time-travel from the 19th century to the 21st, with works by Brahms, Enescu, Rechtman, and Schoenfield performed by pianist Michael Berkovsky and violinist Conrad Chow. On September 21st and 22nd, violinist Alexandru Tomescu and Omar Massa (bandoneon) will perform in Montreal and Toronto “The Ménétrier” by George Enescu, in a larger program including works by Bach, Beethoven, Kriesler, Massa, and Piazzolla.
